Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 6:13-20

We are supposed to be overcomers, and the first thing of all that we have to overcome is inside ourselves. If you do not overcome the man in you, you are not going to be an overcomer of anything else. I do not know if you understand. We have already talked about the sexual urge and the things, the burdens, that God put upon us as natural men. It said that Elijah was a man, a natural man, as we are. Paul said, “I am natural like any one of you. I could lead around a wife” (1 Corinthians 9:5). He had to tell them that, for some of the people were looking up to him as if he was not natural. But you have to overcome the natural man!

How do you learn to overcome the natural man? I can only tell you how God taught me. As a young fellow, I received the Lord. When I say “young,” I mean in my 20’s. The Lord taught me to fast and pray. He taught me to have food to eat, and not eat. To be hungry! To love what I am looking at and smelling, and yet not eat. I think the worst thing for a hungry man is a smell. Oh, it just kills you! Amen! The hunger you have when you are hungry and you smell fresh food (especially things that you like)—it is like a kind of madness that takes you! God wants you to be able to have food and not eat it.

Some of the brothers feel that, “Boy, I need a wife! I need a wife so badly. Oh, you know, I need a wife!” Let me tell you something. The person who hasn’t got a wife has less problem of temptation than those who have a wife, for you have to lie down every night with a wife in the bed and you have to be spiritual. You have to control yourselves, and you have to put your desires and your wants away. So, therefore, you have to learn first by FASTING: To have food and not eat it—HUNGRY! To have water and not drink it—THIRSTY! Yes! I have gone through such thirst that my throat began to split and bleed. My lips would bleed because I was thirsty, there was water and I would not drink it because I was fasting a fast of THIRST!

Now, I am not telling you to do it. Your God must tell you what to do. As a brother shared with us one time, he said, “This is not my body. This is not my property.” His body is the temple of the living God. So if God tells you, “Do not drink water,” then you do not drink water. You see, when Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days, nobody can convince me that He carried a bottle of water with Him.

That was thirst; and thirst can become a kind of madness. When you are thirsty, you have hallucinations; but then that is where I was trained. I was trained at the point where we did not have breakfast, or lunch, or dinner, but we had to go to take the Word of God and preach. Amen! Our children were hungry but they learned not to even say, “I am hungry.” They just played until they fell asleep. We learned how to control the body.

When we came into Miami with $12 in our pocket, ready to do a missionary journey, we did not know anybody, any organization, or anything in America. Nothing! If we had gone to the Salvation Army, that would be a defeat of the faith that we had in God. So we stood and waited until God sent a raven (1 Kings 17:1-6). Oh, yes! But, you know, many would have said, “Get away from me, you dirty raven! I do not want your bread!” Do you think that is what Elijah would have said? Well, a drunken woman came and with all the liquor coming out of her breath fell on the shoulder of my wife, hugged her and said, “Let’s go to Fort Lauderdale.” From a drunken woman, we heard the voice of God. We didn’t say, “Get away from me, you drunkard!” No! But we heard the voice of God speaking through her, and there our missionary journey started.

Scripture reading: 2 Peter 3:8-14

Let us talk about the third dispensation today – “the dispensation of the prophets.” This dispensation presented another way of escape. If you are a prophet, there is something that happens to you. Do you know what really happens to a prophet? There are two manifestations of the Spirit of God. One manifestation is without, and one is within. God said that the Spirit of God shall be with you and also in you (John 14:16-17). That is the promise to us, but God never said it to Elijah, or Elisha, or any of the prophets. The Spirit of God would fall on them, but when the Spirit of God lifted from them, they were just as natural as the day that they were born. Amen! Why do I say that? I will give you an example.

Do you remember King Saul? You know how bad he was. We see him in 1 Samuel 19 going with murder in his heart trying to kill David, but when he meets the prophet Samuel, the Spirit falls upon him and he starts prophesying. So then we see here that he did not prophesy because he was a good fellow. As a matter of fact, he was a “demon on wheels!” But he prophesied because the Spirit of God fell on him and he could not help himself.

When Elijah the prophet died, it was not because he was sick. Have you ever heard of Elijah’s sickness? No. I have never heard of it either, because he was not sick. God just said, “You are going to die.” He didn’t even say “die,” He just said, “You will be taken away today,” meaning to say, “No longer will you have to depend on the earth to suffice your physical needs. No longer will you need to eat fruits and vegetables.” Somebody said the other day that you must eat your veggies and all that sort of thing. No! God said we have come to the stage where we are not going to be wanting any more of these things, for the rich pure oxygen of God’s holy power will be flowing through our veins, and our mortal bodies will be immortalized by the power of God! It is very simple, because we have a dual-purpose body. A dual-purpose body. And this body must live by energy. Amen!

So then, the dual-purpose body that you have can have both the Holy Spirit inside of you or the Holy Spirit outside of you. But God has curtailed the outside operation. He does not do much of the outside operation because the devil can do it also. If God trained you up to listen to Him with your natural ear, then you would hear a lot of other things with your natural ears and confusion would set in.

Let us look a bit closer at this dual-purpose body. If the Spirit of God floods into you, certain things will happen to you that are unnatural. Did you know that you can fly? Do you really know that? If the Spirit of God gets into you enough, the Spirit of God will cancel out gravity. I am not telling you anything that I have not seen done. I have seen it happen. The Spirit of God will cancel out the gravity that is so powerful and so natural for us.

But it is not just gravity that the Spirit of God cancels out. It cancels out sin in you. It cancels out bad propensities that you have inculcated through your whole life, that you have taken from your parents. He cancels out the seat of iniquity within you. Do you know there might be a stool within you where some demon spirit sits down and feels comfortable? Yes! A rocking chair inside of your soul! The Spirit of God cancels it out, smashes the chair, and drives the devil out.

But the devil feels comfortable with some of us. Not just with some of us, but with all of us sometimes. If you allow the devil to be in you, he is going to start manifesting as “God.” Many of us think that to manifest in the gifts of the Spirit exults your position in God. But the gifts of the Spirit are God working in man. It is far above the spiritual stature of the believer. Amen.

I have told you already of the bad man King Saul, how he prophesied and yet it did not add to his spiritual stature. It is because the Spirit of God in you wants to do one work in you more than any other operation. He wants to take the devil out of you. The Bible says that we are “the temple of the living God” (2 Corinthians 6:16) and that we are looking for “a new heaven and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13). This is what God is creating: a new heaven and a new earth.

Scripture reading: Revelation 11:5-6

Revelation 11:5 says, “And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.”

We are talking about a people who will have the power of the spoken word. We want to remind you how powerful the spoken word can be. When we think of Elijah, we understand the place where God is bringing His people – people whose mouth will not speak anything else but the Word of the living God.

1 Kings 18:37 and 38, “Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.” Elijah called fire from heaven.

On another occasion men came to arrest him and they were burnt with fire. 2 Kings 1:10-13a, “And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly. And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. This man humbled himself before God and God spared him. There is precedence in the Word of God for the sons of God to speak and for fire to go forth and destroy the enemy.

In Revelation 11:5a we read, “And if any man will hurt them.” Notice that the first captain of fifty intended to hurt Elijah. The second captain of fifty intended to kill Elijah. However the third captain of fifty knelt down and humbled himself before Elijah and before God and besought him and said unto him, “O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight” (2 Kings 1:13c). He was not there to kill Elijah. God said to Elijah, “Go down with him.” We are going to see this very thing happen again. When people come to kill the sons of God, the man child church, then God will let fire devour them. God said, “IN THIS MANNER be killed” (Revelation 11:5b).

Verse 6a, “These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy.” James 5:17 notes that Elijah shut up heaven that “it rained not” for “three years and six months.” 1 Kings 17:1-3, “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.”

It was Elijah who spoke the word. I want you to remember this, for this is very important in this study. Elijah was given the power to speak the word and to shut up heaven, “there shall not be dew nor rain these years.” In the fourth year, heaven was opened when he again spoke the word. Notice the resemblance of this ministry of power. Elijah shut up the heaven for three and a half years, and the sons of God will do the same. “These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy.”

Revelation 11:6b, “and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.”

This verse sounds exactly like what happened with Moses. It will be war. The sons of God will not be using carnal weapons of war to fight. They will use the weapons of their warfare which are spiritual weapons. When a man goes and agitates against those who are aborting babies and shoots the doctor (it has happened a number of times now) this is entirely ungodly and out of order. When he does that, he is saying that his God is not powerful enough to take care of the situation, so he is going to do it himself. Many people have lost the concept of God, of who God is. If we serve God and then take a gun and go out and shoot, then our God is weak.

Real power would be to get down and pray. The abortion places would shut down because men believed God, but these people do not believe God. I hear the evangelists preaching on television and giving the following scenario: if we were able to kill Hitler, we would be proclaimed as heroes. The truth is that we are not here to kill people. We are here to save souls. Whenever God gives the sons of God the power to call down fire from heaven and to stop the enemy, it is to save His people. We will be praying, “GOD SAVE YOUR PEOPLE.”

When someone rises up to destroy the sons of God, God will allow the spoken word to come forth in the mighty power that Elijah and Moses had and that we have seen all throughout Scripture. The fullness of this power is coming and Christians who go out and buy guns and shoot people are a disgrace to God and are playing right into the hands of the enemy. Brethren, pray that God might have mercy upon His people and separate us from those who choose to dwell in the outer court and are ready to be destroyed.
