How I Could Not Rebuke a Demon
“The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life!” (John 6:63)
Let me tell you a secret. You cannot get up overnight and receive the power of God to bring down the kingdom of the devil. You cannot say just overnight, “I am going to bring down the kingdom of Satan!” God did say you are going to bring it down, but it is not an overnight action. In order to understand what God is saying, let me show you a picture: Let us say you take a nine-millimeter gun and fire it. What happens inside that gun? The first thing that gets the shock is the gun! It gets the shock (the recoil) of the bullet before the bullet can go forward to hit the enemy. And we are like that gun. If you do not have the fortitude in you, then how do you expect to overcome a devil with your words?
I will give you an example from my own life. One night I was standing up waiting for I knew a great demon was coming to attack me. Demons always come to me and they get beat up. But this one was pretty strong. I stood up until I heard the thing. He was deliberately making noise so that I could hear him coming. What I forgot to do was to cover myself with the Blood of Jesus. I was too happy to fight him, to rebuke him. When I looked around, I saw four people standing like soldiers at attention beside me. I knew they were a part of the heavenly hosts that are helping us in our battles. When the demon came, I rose up to rebuke him in the Name of Jesus, and “Ahhh…” was the only thing that came out of my mouth. Nothing else. I tried to rebuke him again but I could not talk. I was held by a power that stopped me.
At that point, one of the men that stood beside me stepped right before me and placed his hand in between my mouth and the spirit. The moment he did so, I was able to say to the demon, “I rebuke you in the Name of Jesus!” When I spoke, he stopped and began to pack up his things. “All right, since you say, ‘In the Name of Jesus,’ I will go,” was his response.
What did I learn through this experience? I learned that this devil had a power that was beaming from him on me and his power stopped me from speaking. My positive power was not strong enough to overcome his negative power. However, I got help. When the man beside me blocked the thing from coming to me, I exploded! Do you understand what I am saying, brethren? We will get help from God, but God wants us to be in a position to fight back. In other words, the first weapon of our warfare is the WORD. Jesus Christ said in John 6:63, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life!”
