“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.” (Ephesians 1:13)
Nobody can be sure of his salvation until he is baptized in the Holy Ghost. Take a note of this truth. There is a seal that comes upon every person who is saved. A man, who has a doctrine against receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost, has a doctrine against being saved. These are very important factors. You cannot lay hands on a sinner so that he would get the Holy Ghost. A sinner will not receive the Holy Ghost! He may receive a ghost but not the Holy Ghost. You may think it is a joke, but I will tell you a story about it.
I have seen sinners in my walk with the Lord who come to receive Jesus, but they don’t really receive Him. However, they would be prayed for and start the bubble-shubble and speak in tongues. Yet, they continue as wiser sinners. Wiser sinners! They would go to church and take over the service. They can manifest, they can preach, they can leap, and they can speak in tongues. Sinners! There are even some ministers who are sinners. This one man, I am thinking about, was a minister. He carried out much psychological antics for he knew people would like him to do it. He would jump and carry on and on. There was a beam coming across the church building where he preached and at a certain time in his message he would leap on the top of the beam saying, “I will fly away!” One day, he made a leap and… You know the rest of the story. He missed the beam and came down heavy on the concrete floor. It took him a while to get up.
However, this was not his sin. The sin was that he was a fornicator, an adulterer. Part of his doctrine was adultery. God said that no fornicator nor adulterer has eternal life dwelling in him. This man fornicated and adulterated and then he turned around and preached a doctrine of polygamy saying, “We must have more than just one wife. You can’t show me in the scriptures where we should have only one wife.” He told me it was a western philosophy to have only one wife and we were following westerners but God’s truth is that you can have more than one wife. When a man preaches nonsense like this, it means he has more than one wife. There is no way he could preach it and get away from that demon! The truth is that God made one man and one woman. And it is the will of God that one man should have one wife. As to why women outnumber man about three to one, I do not know. I am aware of the fact that especially in this generation there are more girls being born than boys. There might be another spiritual reason for it. I do not know and I do not intend to go into any kind of conjecture on the subject. But I do know that God made one man and one woman and His pure intention for His people is that a man should have one wife. Paul spoke about it clearly in the Bible when he was talking about elders and deacons (meaning the servants of God) that they should be husbands of one wife only.
And so, brethren, let us make sure that we “were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise” and walk in the holiness the Spirit is leading us into.
