My Brother Frank’s wife wanted to receive the Holy Spirit for years. She had been praying; she had been tarrying; she had been begging; she had been fasting. Yet, she couldn’t receive the Holy Spirit. Then one day, during the storm season, we had such a severe storm that it began to shake her door. As she saw the door shaking, she rushed over to put something behind it so that it would stay in its place. When she got to the door and held it, the storm came in with a gust of wind, took the door up with her and sailed her across the room. By the time she hit the other wall, she was speaking in tongues.
She got out of herself. She could not find a way to get out of herself before, but a gust of wind taught her how to call upon the name of the Lord. Therefore, adversity is not too bad after all as it helps some of us to call upon the name of the Lord. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) And I would add – he has to call in Spirit and in Truth. Adversity is a tool that God sometimes uses to get somebody real serious about Him.
