One time God sent us to India. India is a place where people worship devils. And it is not that just some people worship them, but the majority of non-Christians do. The government itself encourages devil worship. They put a god out in the middle of the square and you see everybody praying to him. They lay down their offering before him and bow down, making obeisance to wood and stone. A part of that land, around Nagercoil, which is the little tip at the bottom, is the seat of Satan. When you go there, you see it and you feel it. All the temples in that area are the temples of the devil. It is very interesting to find out that all the temples from all over the world as well as all the churches are right there, too. And everything is satanic.
When you see the gods of India, there is one that is always at the top of the others. He is an ugly thing, which, unfortunately, I see in the American comic books that the children read and enjoy not knowing that he is a Hindu god of India. He has big eyes and a mouth with two sharp teeth in the front. His name is Kali, the god of destruction, the god of death and blood, the head of all the gods. The worshippers of Kali drink blood. We found out a very peculiar thing: the temple where Mother Teresa used to go to bless the people who were dying was Kali’s temple. All the sick, who believed that they were going to die, would go to this temple. And she would walk around and bless them on their jouney to hell.
When we got to Nagercoil, the first thing we saw was a satanic feast. It was a feast time and the people were worshipping Kali just down the street from where we were staying. They were drinking goat’s blood and saying to Kali, “We are offering you goat’s blood today and we are going to offer you human blood tomorrow – American blood.” One of the boys came to us and told us the meaning of what they were saying. The Spirit of God moved upon me and God told me, “Do not wait for that spirit to attack you. You attack him!” You see, we could not get the Indian people to sit down and listen to us, because they were terrified that if they submitted to the Christian God, they would be in trouble with Kali. That night I actually threw out a challenge to him. I said, “In the Name of Jesus Christ we have come to break the hold of Kali over the people of India.”
As I was interested to know more about him, I went into a store. I did not know at that time that a store, where they sell all the memorabilia for Kali must be run by one of his practitioners. I said to the owner of the store, “I want to know something about this spirit called Kali. Do you have any literature about him?” He looked at me strangely and responded, “Yes, I do. This is what I have.” He handed me a book, I paid him for it and left. I did not know that the man was a worshipper of Kali! And not only that – he was his priest! I went directly to Kali’s priest to tell him that I was against Kali without even knowing it! I did not know what I was doing! I was offering a challenge to the worst spirit on earth. In other words, that spirit met the apostle Thomas and killed him right there where I was. Thomas landed at Nagercoil and began to preach. He traveled up to the city we call Madras, which is now called Chennai, and the Hindus decided to kill him. He ran up into a mountain, they followed him and killed him. And, of course, the Catholics built a shrine right where he was killed. I actually went to look at the shrine. So you can see this spirit has not been overcome.
That night I studied the book and went to bed late, sometime after twelve. No sooner than I closed my eyes, this thing came into my room and attacked me. He jumped on me and began to choke me. I had no fear, which was a great blessing that God must have done. I just had a job to do. I grappled with him and started to rebuke him, “In the name of Jesus, I command you to loose your hold…” but it was ineffective. He couldn’t choke me as he was trying to, but it didn’t stop him from attacking me. He was laughing with his big dirty teeth trying to get me. I continued rebuking him and he disappeared. Thinking that I had won the battle, I turned to go out, but out of the wall the thing came again. He made a terrible sound with his bared teeth, “Hhyahh!” and grabbed my hand. This time, he jumped right out of the wall on top of me. His intention was a sudden attack to bring fear, fright, terror! Again, I was not afraid. He caught the two fingers of my left hand in his mouth and began to apply pressure on them. While I was rebuking him, I took the two fingers and grabbed his tongue. It felt like a kind of stalemate. My rebuke did not stop him. He came back with a greater force than before. At that moment the spirit of God came to me and whispered in my right ear, “The Blood.” Well, that is a totally different ballgame! That is a higher level of warfare! I couldn’t talk to him with the words, which might be powerful to some spirits. I had to get up to the spiritual realm with him!
Every time I preach, I always tell the brethren, “Get yourself trained in commanding the Blood of Jesus Christ. If you are not trained, then when you are in the battle, you will not be able to remember it.” The reason is very simple: the power of the spirit that is before you prevents you from reaching out to the Blood unless you are already in the Blood, unless you are already moving with the Blood. You see, when I was a young man, instead of going to Bible school I went to God’s school and God was teaching me the gospel. One of the things He taught me was the crucifixion. One day He said to me, “Come with Me, let Me show you the crucifixion.” Have you ever taken your Bible and gone through the whole crucifixion and imagined what really happened? Jesus took me through the whole crucifixion. Every step of the way I felt the pain, I felt the suffering. I saw them dragging Him along. I saw a man spit right in His face while His hands were tied. He even carried me to the cross and I saw the Blood. Do you know what happened when the prince of devils attacked me? I began to see the Blood again! My mind went back to the Blood of Jesus Christ. When you do that, you are immediately lifted into another realm.
Can you imagine that Jesus had to remind me of the weapon I had? Just imagine it: you are in a fierce battle of life and death and you have a weapon, but you don’t remember to use it until God’s spirit comes to you and reminds you. When I saw the Blood, I said, “The Blood of Jesus be upon you.” You have to understand the devil. If he cannot frighten you, he cannot beat you. Fear is one of his greatest weapons. If faith is our weapon, fear is his. And you cannot have faith and fear at the same time. If you have fear, you do not have faith, and if you have faith, you do not have any fear.
So I said, “Jesus Christ, bring down the Blood upon him.” I looked up and it was as if the ceiling was sweating Blood. The Blood came right down on his head and when it did, he began to wobble. I took one hand and pulled my fingers out of his mouth. He fell to the floor like a bundle of rags. I rebuked him again and he started to slither on the floor to get away. I continued to rebuke him until he disappeared.
You have to understand, brethren, no power on earth can overcome you if you are in Christ. You have to get that into your heart. No power can overcome you. But you have to have your channels clean. If Satan can get you to have something against your brother or sister, if he can get you to quarrel, to fuss, to be distressed, to be worried, or anything like that, he is destroying the power of the Word and the power of the Blood in you.
Also, you must have faith! But your faith must be in something. In other words, faith is a subsidiary weapon that cannot work by itself. You cannot have wild faith like the “Name It and Claim It” type. That is a wild faith, which does not have substance in anything. You have to have faith in the Word. I pray that the Lord gives you wisdom to fight your battles with the right weapons.
