Scripture reading: Matthew 5:14-16

By Mavis duCille

One day the word of the Lord came to my heart and it said that “Man is self-destruct.” From the Garden of Eden, Satan sowed the seed of destruction into the human race, and that is why the second Adam had to come to the rescue. If we look into our own lives, we can see the “seed of evil.” Everything that we do contrary to righteousness and the will of the Lord comes from this seed which was planted in the human race. It is the reason why Cain killed Abel; and from that early time to now, everything that is contrary to God that has happened and is happening is brought about by this seed of evil that is within us.

When the seed of righteousness comes in us, it is like light expelling the darkness. But it is only as we allow it, otherwise we will have areas where the light is not able to penetrate the darkness, and there will be areas in us where the darkness will remain.

And so we think of some of the words that the Lord gives, like, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16) That means that if we allow the darkness to remain in us, then men will not see the light of God. On the contrary, they will see the darkness.

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (could not pull down or overcome the light).” (John 1:4-5)

“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” (John 1:6-9)

“But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” (John 3:21)

So, it is saying that as Christ comes forth in us, we get rid of the darkness. We get rid of the evil as we go forth in the Lord and as the good inhabits us, but it has to inhabit us so that it is not just something that is in our minds. That is why it is sometimes so difficult for us, when we know a lot of scriptures and a lot of truth, because it is not impressed upon us that we are supposed to walk in what we know; that is how the light expels the darkness.

We cannot allow both the darkness and the light to abide, where we are sometimes righteous and sometimes unrighteous; or where we sometimes in our daily living take leave of righteousness to do the things that are contrary to God. It is like we are making excuses to do the wrong thing and as long as that condition remains in us we are destroying ourselves. Nevertheless, Jesus came to set the captives free!

Thought for today: We get rid of the evil as we go forth in the Lord and as the good inhabits us. But it has to inhabit us and not be just something is in our minds.

Scripture reading: John 14:30

There is a song that we sing, which says, “I am going to see the King.” But it should really say, “I am going to BE as the king!” That is what the Lord is waiting on us for. To BE – to BE what He has called us to BE! Amen. It doesn’t matter how much we sing, how much we read, how much we preach, how much whatever we do – if it does not create in us that nature for which Jesus died, we are wasting our time. We are wasting our time and energy and everything else that God has given, we are casting it off.

SO WE HAVE TO AIM TO BE LIKE HIM in everything that we do; every utterance that we make, to be like Him. We can say a lot of things, because talk is cheap. We don’t have to pay very much for it. BUT we have to pay ALL for the life that we ought to live before the LORD. The “pearl of greatest price” (Matthew 13:46) demands that we sell all. Sell ALL. WE have nothing of ourselves, nothing to hold on to. Nothing that we can even bargain with. We have nothing but HIM. We have to get to that place where we are totally sold out. Sold out, that when the enemy comes knocking at our door, we are not there. He is risen. He is not dead. He is risen. And that is what we have to aim after.

Many times we sing many songs, and it appeals to our emotions, and we think that we are there, but we are not – not until it has worked the perfect work of salvation and deliverance in our souls – then the enemy comes and has nothing in us. That is what Jesus said in His last hours. He said, “The enemy comes and has nothing in me” (John 14:30). That is what He is bringing us into – that when the enemy comes, he has nothing in us, he has no place to tempt us. Even in trials, tribulations, troubles, and everything that we sing about – that is to be the focus. If we have focus on anything else, we are losing the game; we are missing the mark; we are batting hard, but not hitting the mark.

So praise God. We are hoping that when we meet together in the meeting settings, it will bring us closer to reality rather than to generalities; to that which makes us what we ought to be. So that when we leave, when we are by ourselves, or when we are anywhere else, the Blood of Jesus is still standing strong in our souls, that we cannot deny Him as Peter did. “I don’t know the man. I never saw him” (Luke 22:57). But after he met Jesus, Jesus told Him, “When thou art converted, strengthen the brethren” (Luke 22:32).

So there is a certain place that we ought to reach in the Lord, where Satan cannot reach us. And that is what we are to aim for. When we come to meetings, when we gather together, we have to shake off the old-man; shake off the old-deeds; old-doctrine; old sayings; old everything – and let the newness of Christ reign in our hearts, reign at home, reign at work, reign in our business.

I have heard a lot of business people say, “But this is business.” Where is God? Where is Christ? He is to be foremost in our business; foremost in our home; foremost in our marriage. Now there is something that I would like to speak on, because a lot of people think that they are married, but they are only marred – marred by the enemy – stamped by the enemy, because we have been given its stamp, and we are going by that stamp.

But the Word, the Word is a Light, and a lamp unto our feet (Psalms 119:105) and it is plain for everybody, and clear for every stage of life, every stage, from before you were born. There is a word for the unborn child. When you are born, there is a word for you and your parents together. When you are married, there is a word for you that is everlasting. Not for a time, it is everlasting, when the Lord said, “Till death do us part,” He means it! He doesn’t mean that next month, or when things don’t feel right.

So there is a word for every stage of life and that is what we are to lay a hold of. Fix it in your place where you are and it will be life and light unto you. God bless you!

Scripture reading: John 14:16 & 26

Beloved brethren, let us talk about sin and righteousness today. I have noticed that many of us do not know what righteousness is, because we fail to recognize righteousness. Let me tell you something: you have righteousness inside of you. Once you are born again of the Spirit of God, God is going to find ways and means to get His Word into your mind and into your heart. When you reject that Word you reject God. I don’t know if I can impress that hard enough. YOU MUST HEAR GOD FROM INSIDE OF YOU. You must hear God so that when you do God’s will you feel blessed inside. Sometimes it is just the exact opposite of what you feel like doing. You don’t want to do it, it is not your cup of tea, but thus saith the Lord God Almighty, “I command it that you do what I am saying to you in your heart to do because that is God.” Not necessarily what the counselor tells you, not necessarily what the friends like about you, not necessarily what all your family might want you to do. God Almighty wants you to do something and that something is in your heart and there is no denying it. You cannot say, “I have not heard God.” Because God says, “Conscience is the voice of God speaking in the soul of man.” Let me repeat that. I used to learn that at Sunday school. “Conscience is the voice of God speaking in the soul of man.” God speaks to your soul. Beware of listening to other voices: for you can hear with your ears; you can hear with your heart; you can hear with your emotions; you can hear with your desires; you can hear with your will; you can hear with your own mind. But thus saith the Lord God, “I speak to you inside of your own being.” Your conscience will tell you, “This is right.” “I should not do this. This is wrong for me to do.”

I want to tell you something more, brethren. Whenever you reject God, you have committed a sin that is very, very hard to even repent from. Do you know that there are some decisions you can make in life on which you have no return? No return. God gives you an opportunity to choose and you make the wrong choice and you know it is wrong – in your heart you know you are making the wrong choice, but you are determined to make it. If you make it, it is going to stick with you for the rest of your life. This is what God showed me that sometimes if you make the wrong choice, you make it for the rest of your life. You can’t reverse a choice that is made. God Almighty is saying to all of us, “…Choose you this day whom ye will serve…” (Joshua 24:15).

Righteousness, therefore, is not just a condition, but it is just like a being living inside of you that tells you, “This is right and that is wrong.” You know, the scripture says, “I will send you another Comforter even the Spirit of truth. He will guide you into all truth and He will show you the difference between right and wrong” (John 14:16 & 26). Another scripture says, in speaking of Jesus Christ, “Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good” (Isaiah 7:15).

(Excerpt from Keeping in Touch, September, 2009)

Thought for today: Righteousness is not just a condition, but it is just like a being living inside of you that tells you, “This is right and that is wrong.”

Scripture reading: John 14:23

We receive the Holy Ghost by obedience to the blood. Some groups teach that by obedience to the ministry we receive the Spirit and other attributes of God, but this is error. This is the same error which the Catholic Church and all the other denominations preach, when they say they are the only true church, and unless you belong to their ranks you cannot make heaven.

God’s order of things is that one obeys the Word of God to receive the blood of Christ, which is the life of God. The next step is to obey that which you have received, to receive that which you desire. We obey the blood, and we receive the Holy Ghost. When we obey the Holy Ghost, we receive the fullness. This is clearly defined by Jesus Himself in John 14:23,

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”

The Holy Ghost causes people to speak in tongues, but not everyone who speaks in tongues is filled with the Holy Ghost. In some places, devil worshippers speak in tongues. There are unclean churches who believe in abominable living, preaching and teaching abomination for doctrines, yet speak in tongues. People can speak in tongues psychologically. There are three types of tongues:

(a) Tongues from God
(b) Tongues from the devil
(c) Tongues from the mind of the individual.

God knows that we need the Holy Ghost so that Christ would be formed in us. Therefore, if you obey the blood, you will receive the Holy Ghost.
