“Lovest Thou Me?”

Scripture reading: John 21:15-17

Let us turn our Bibles to John 21. This chapter is written after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We see Jesus appearing unto the brethren. Let’s read from verse 15, So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved (If I came and did that to you, you would want to know what is going on.) because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Today we want to talk about the feeding of the sheep and the lambs. But we have to get into the background of what was said, because the English does not carry out what Jesus and Peter really said. There are two words here that are used for love: the word “phileo” and the word “agapao.”

Jesus Christ asked Peter, “Do you agape me?” and Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, I phileo You.”

In other words Jesus was asking, “Do you love me with the love of God?” and Peter was saying, “I love you just as much as I can love you; as much as I love my own brother. I love you like my own mother or like my own family.”

Peter was going to his limit but Jesus was trying to force him beyond the man’s limit, “Do you agape me?” Finally, the third time Jesus said, “All right, do you phileo me?” Peter responded, “You know that I phileo You.” Then Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.”

You cannot feed God’s people without God’s love. Love for your family is not enough to give you the incentive to feed God’s people, because feeding God’s people takes suffering. Every mother knows what it takes to bring up a child and when the child rebels against you, you don’t throw him out because he is rebellious. Instead you do everything to throw the rebellion out of him. But then in the process of trying to get the rebellion out of him, you have to get the rebellion out of you, because generally the rebellion that is in the child came from the parents. So the child becomes the teacher of the adult, because you are here trying to get rebellion out of a child while you have rebellion in you. You will find that unless you can put down your own rebellion and begin to deal with the situation in the child, you will be feeding the child with more rebellion rather than deliverance from rebellion as rebellion is a spirit. It is a spirit. So we have hindering spirits that hinder our feeding one another.

Now the peculiar part about this whole chapter of John is that God told Peter to feed the flock of God and God tells the ministry to feed the flock of God. But today God is calling to the flock of God to feed the flock of God. It has come to the place where the body is the feeder.

Let me explain it to you: You take the hand and you pick up the food and you put it to the mouth, but the moment that the food gets to the mouth and begins to go down into the alimentary canal, the body begins to work on it; it begins to send out food to the different parts of the body. So it is the body that feeds the body, although the food originally went to the mouth from the hand. But if the body doesn’t strengthen the hand, the hand will never be able to lift the food to the mouth. I trust you understand what I am saying.

Thought for today: Love for your family is not enough to give you the incentive to feed God’s people. You need the “agapao” love of God, because feeding God’s people takes suffering.

Scripture reading: Colossians 1:13-16

Today, I want you to understand one important thing: God is Almighty for me, but He is not Almighty for the enemy that is coming against me. The enemy still looks down on you and says, “I can beat that thing called man.” You see, God has to use you to teach the principalities and powers of hell Who God is.

Colossians 1:13-16 says, Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.

We see that this scripture tells us about principalities and powers being created by Him. Yes. Let us read in Ephesians 3:9-10, And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.

The word “church” in this passage signifies the church militant. In other words, we as living people are teaching their princes and all of their areas of influence the manifold wisdom of God. Let’s see if we can analyze that a little bit. For instance, when we gather together in His name, the place is more than full because there are more gathered with us than what we see in the natural. They have ways of seeing us and hearing us, although they can’t be contained in this little building. So then all the people who have passed on and gone to the heavenlies are listening to the revelation that God gives us here now in the church. Those who are in hell are studying us to see how they can get at us. So the people to whom God is giving revelation and who are walking in truth become a target for hell and become a school for those who are in the heavenlies. Can you imagine a man who never knew God and died but on his deathbed he called upon the Lord and was saved? Where do you think he is going to learn about God? The Bible says, “from the church” and “the angels desire also to look into it” (Ephesians 3:10, I Peter 1:12). The angels are learning from us. Paul, in speaking to the brethren, said that you must be careful how you walk and how you talk and how you live, because the heavenly host is watching you.

Thought for today: Remember, in every situation you find yourself in, you are teaching the princes and all of their areas of influence the manifold wisdom of God.

Scripture reading: Psalm 24

We are children of the Almighty God. Can you understand that? We are children of the Almighty God and, as children of the Almighty God, we really have no problem, except of course, ourselves. If we can get rid of this self and just trust God, we will become overcomers. An overcomer is not someone who just sits and puts his feet up and says, “I’ve got it all made.” But he is someone who overcomes the problems that other men couldn’t overcome. And the chief key to our overcoming is obedience to the Spirit of the Living God.

But now, how are you going to obey Someone Who you can’t hear? Amen. How are you going to hear Someone Who you can’t see? God Almighty planted within us His Spirit so that what you must obey is the Spirit within. That is the reason why you don’t have a pastor or a bishop, because you would have to obey the bishop. But then, if you obey the Spirit within you, you will do what God wants you to do and you will feel good about it. You see, when you obey the Spirit of the living God, you feel free inside. Sometimes it is hard, it is not something that you want to do, but you obey God because God is speaking inside of you.

Now, let’s talk about this Almighty God a little bit. He is able to control your spirit, to control your mind, to control your body. Let’s look at the chain of command: Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, my spirit, my soul (which means my mind, my emotions, my will, and my desires), and my body.

Many times I don’t desire what God desires. I don’t have the will that God has. My emotions are leading me a certain way and my mind is not always stayed on God (Isaiah 26:3). But then, I notice that when you come to service, you start by singing. The Scripture speaks about opening up the doors of our hearts. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20). There is a knocking and sometimes the song service opens the door. You know, we start to sing Unto Thee O Lord, Do I Lift up My Soul and, as you sing that, your heart begins to open to Jesus. He is not waiting, He is pouring in. God is pouring in and by the time you sing it a few times, you feel lifted up in the Spirit. So God is saying to you that you have to practice opening your heart to God.

You see, what happened is that God never promised to open your heart. He is always saying, Lift up your heads, O ye gates (Psalm 24:7). I am talking to my gate now. Lift up your heads. It is like approaching the gate and the gate just opening for us. Somebody gave a command to the gate, “Gate open!” and the gate opened. This is what God is saying. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in (Psalm 24:7). This everlasting door is no more than your soul. He is talking about your mind opening up. He said of the bride, …the bride hath made herself ready (Revelation 19:7). So while we are feeling small before God, we should realize that we have the key to the door, the gates and the bars and the Almighty God will come in.

Thought for today: God never promised to open your heart but He has given you the power to do so.

What Is Righteousness?

Scripture reading: Revelation 11:1-3

Did you know that all of the mighty deliverances that you have read about in your Bible are about to happen to you? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob is our God. He has never changed and He will never change. He promises you protection; hold onto that. Praise God.

The reason why the Bible says, “If anyone says that Jesus is out there, don’t go,” is because the first appearing of Jesus is in our souls, it is not out there (Matthew 24:23). Please believe me that we are not much and God wants us to acknowledge that nothingness in order that we might be able to trust Him for everything. Do you see what I am saying? He wants us to put the flesh down. The carnal things, the human operations, the power that we have, put it down. It is not going to stand in the day of battle, but the God in you is going to stand. This is the reason why God said not to believe that Jesus is out there, because Jesus is coming in you.

Look at Revelation 11. There is going to be trouble. People are going to be killed. There is a flock of the slaughter that is now being fattened for destruction (Zechariah 11:4, 7). Revelation 11:3, And I will give power unto my two witnesses… But verses one and two tell us that one section of the church will be trampled under foot. When we look at the Outer Court of the Tabernacle, we can see that it is the place where the people of God do not have the infilling of God. So any church that doesn’t believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a church that is in the Outer Court. Read in Revelation 11:2 what it says about the Outer Court. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. When God speaks of 42 months, He is talking about a lunar year. Lunar means the moon going around the earth 42 times, 42 new moons. He says that they are going to be trampled for 42 moons.

But then He says in verse 3, And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days. When you speak of days, you speak of a solar year. It means that the sun will be rising and setting for a thousand two hundred and sixty times. Basically that will be three and a half years. He is talking about lunar years, too.

If this is so, you ask yourself the question, “When is this going to take place?” We hear that there are riots in Iran. Iran was a trigger that Satan was about to use to trigger this war. The riots in Iran are preventing Satan from pulling the trigger. You notice the little things that will happen to hold back, which are giving us time to prepare.

You have to be prepared in your mind; that is the chief preparation. God might speak to some of you about saving some food, water, solar energy and things like that. As sons of God, you should be well advanced in doing these things.

Somebody says, “But we are sons of God; we don’t have to make any preparation.” Sons of God obey God. If God tells you to jump, you jump. If He tells you to sit down, you sit down. That is the difference between the righteousness of this time and the past righteousness. You see, the righteousness before Jesus came that brought the Holy Ghost was that men would do certain things. They would read their Bible so many times a day, pray so many times a day, do this, do that, or do that. Now righteousness is doing what God wants you to do when He wants you to do it. So when the Holy Ghost wanted them to go into the corn field on the Sabbath day, they did it. They didn’t care about the law, as you know.

Can you understand then, what makes you righteous now? It is obeying the Holy Spirit. That is what makes you righteous now. So then, as righteous people, we are going to walk according to the plan of God and not according to our own thinking. I hope you can get that part, because this is the main thing that is going to get you ready for a time of trouble that will be greater than any other.

Thought for today: Righteousness is doing what God wants you to do when He wants you to do it.
