Love Cancels out Hate

[Printable version]

Scripture reading: Matthew 5:44-45

Let us look today at the love that you have for your family. God said that by this love you can learn a little of His love. He said, “Unto your natural love, add God’s love” (II Peter 1:7). The love of God, therefore, is above our natural love. What is the height of our natural love? A woman has a child and her very soul is knit to that child. If you are going to hurt that child, you are going to hurt the mother’s innermost being, because that child is not just a part of her, but somehow her whole being is involved in the being of the child. God said, “Can a mother’s tender care cease toward the child she bear? Is it possible?” He said, “Yes. She may be forgetful, but I will never forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). When we move in love, we are moving in the highest form of holiness that is revealed to man. That is, He gave us an idea. He said, “Love thinketh no evil” (I Corinthians 13:5). Love thinketh no evil. That is, this child is evil. This man is evil. He is doing wrong. He is doing everything that is contrary to God and to us. He is hurting you. He is killing you. He wishes you dead. You cannot think him evil. You cannot think, “Man, he needs a good wallop.” Isn’t that the way we sometimes feel? Yes. “That guy needs a good wallop to set him straight.” What he needs is love. Now, if we get to the stage where we can impart the love of God to someone who is not lovely, who is away from love, who is cruel, who is doing harm, then we will have risen above the human realm. Remember, He said “pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father…” children of love (Matthew 5:44-45). That is what He is talking about. If you can pray for someone who is hurting you, then you have attained unto a higher level of human behavior than what is natural.

I went to God one time and I was honest. I said, “God, you know I cannot love this man. I just cannot love him.” I didn’t want to say, “I hate him.” I just couldn’t love him. But there is nothing between love and hate. Anything outside of love is hate. You know something? Even indifference is hate. You don’t care whether he lives or dies. You don’t care. People around you are dying and you don’t care. It means you are not walking in love. That is terrible, isn’t it? All of us would be guilty. Oh, yes. Some of us are so busy with our own business that we don’t care – people, neighbors, going to hell. You don’t care. How often have you gone out and seen a person that is bad, bad, bad and you feel compassion and start praying for him, “Have mercy on him”?

Love will cancel hate. Do you hear me? It will cancel out hate. There is somebody that hates you. He hates the very ground you walk on. He wishes you dead, but you get before him and the radiation of the love of God out of you cancels his hate. When he gets away from you, he feels a little different about you. Instead, what has really been happening is that hate is canceling our love. When you think of what God did for you… “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son” and His Son had to pay the price for sin which was horrible (John 3:16). I heard someone say the other day that He must have had every disease that you can think of that oppresses humanity. Jesus Christ must have been attacked by these diseases and He was able to overcome them. But He had to go through all this, and the worst part of it is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Life of God, the Light, the Glory of God had to allow Himself to be put down by evil demons. You cannot imagine how hard that was for Him. When Jesus Christ called in the garden, “Let this cup pass from Me” (Matthew 26:39), He wasn’t saying that He didn’t want to save humanity any more. That is not what He was saying. He was saying, “Do I have to go through all this? Do I have to allow Myself to be taken by demons, by devils? Do I have to be taken down to hell?” The Bible says hell was made for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Hell was not made for man; but Jesus Christ allowed Himself to be taken by the very opposite of everything that He was, and we will call that death, and He was allowed to do that until God judged Him guiltless and He was redeemed from out of hell.

So, I am saying, brethren, that, when the Bible says, “God is love,” those three words, we will never be able to fully understand the immensity of the understanding of what it is that God is. He is therefore everything that is contrary to what we are. We are flesh and blood, darkness, sin, everything that is contrary to light, glory, power, strength, uplifting, and God says that He is going to make you love. God breathed into Adam and Adam became a living soul (Genesis 2:7) and then Adam died, so God is again breathing into us so that we might become living souls.

Who Is This God?

Scripture reading: I John 4:16

Let us turn our Bibles to I John today and let us look at chapter 4 and verse 16, “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”

“God is love.” That is just what I want to talk to you about a little bit and pray that His Spirit might help us to really see above the natural.

God made man in His own image and man is the only creature that can love. Yes. You know, love is much more than what we can see or what we believe. We believe in a love that is on such a low plane. It is on a very low plane and we heard that they have carried it even lower by saying, “Men love women.” They even say, “I love this and I love that.” “I love to drink coffee,” and, “I love so and so.” It is the lowest area that we could even consider of love.

“God is love.” Someone asks you, “Who is this God? This great God that made the heavens; this God that reigns and rules within the universe. Who is He?” The best answer you can give is, “He is love.”

But then, what is love? If we start to think about love, we are going to be judging it from ourselves. Yet, the Word says God loves us and anyone that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God. Now, we know then that God is life and God is light (I John 1:5). So, we are talking about energy. We are talking about something that is so vibrant, something that is far beyond what we can think. A life that, when it comes into you, drives away all of death. That is why I believe we should get to the stage where, when our bodies are sick, we just put it before God and let His life come into us and we will be healed. Personally, I have experienced it, I believe it and I would like to see us get there. But that is just the edge of love and life, for when you allow God’s life to heal your bodies, it is basic. Yes, it is basic. It is down to earth, because there is something more. I mean, that is not all. God, this great energy, is Love.

Now, to understand love, let us look at the opposite of love – hate. That is on the other side, far out there. But between love and hate there are shadows. Everything that departs from the light is a shadow and it is hate. So, when we say we love so and so or we love this and that person, we are speaking relatively, consequent upon our capacity to love. We are not saying that we have attained unto agape love (the true love of God), for agape is so much higher than what we have that we can only imagine what it is like.

The Bible said that God so loved the world that He gave Himself (John 3:16). When the scriptures say that he gave “His only begotten Son,” it is only another way of saying that God took out part of Himself and gave it to us. In other words, God has to speak a language that we understand. When God talks about His Son, He is talking about God. He is talking about God coming out of God to enter into you. You cannot understand how hard it was for God to do that; how horrible it was for Jesus Christ to allow demons to take hold of Him and take Him down into hell when He had the power to destroy them all! It is terrible. It is hard to think of. He had the power. If He had spoken one word, He could have destroyed them all. Then the devil sent the people to tempt Him. “We will believe that you are God, if You just come right down off the cross right now” (Matthew 27:42). He was tempted to come down and even to go back up, but that was a temptation and Jesus would not fall for that. Under the pressure of hate, that is the time that love shows forth itself the greatest.

Scripture reading: Revelation 20:11-12

It would seem that the “white throne” judgment seat mentioned in Revelation 20:11-12 would be for the Christian a case of giving them a reward; for the sinner it would be a case of casting them into a permanent place of separation from God. Now, if someone thinks that this is somewhat too harsh, then we need to have a little discussion on this point.

Let us deal with “the book of life.” James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” Revelation 2:10, “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” It is clearly stated here that there are different rewards given to the people of God, and that the rewards will not all be the same. Someone says, “Well, I do not care, as long as I make it in.” Well, praise God, but in heaven there are different powers of angels, different rewards, different positions, different situations.

For instance, there is Michael and Gabriel, and there are many other angels of lesser degree which God calls mighty angels. We call them archangels. (I do not know how correct the word is, but for want of a better word, we call them archangels.) God calls them, in Ezekiel, “STONES OF FIRE.” These angels have the power to change everything, like fire. These angels have this magnificent power so that whatever they come upon, they can change it by just sheer power and the glory of God that is with them.

1 Corinthians 15:40-43, “There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised IN POWER.” We understand, therefore, that there will be a difference, and this is why people should labor that they might receive all the goodness that God has for them. I do believe that in our endeavors and in our work as Christians, God has certain rewards to give, and I do believe that it is possible for one to miss their reward and fail to receive it.

No deed, no thought, no action dies. It is all being stored up in a record. We know that God can record our thoughts. Listen to this scripture. Ecclesiastes 12:13 and 14, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” It is indeed awesome for us to even think that God hears everything we say and hears the things we do not say; that is, HE KNOWS THE THOUGHTS OF OUR HEART. A man will be judged on a level which is so high, that he will be judged for the things he thinks and the things he plans to do, even if he did not accomplish them. We look at Scripture to carry this thought out. Matthew 12:36, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” God is speaking about idle words of sinners and also of Christians. We are going to be surprised to see how much loss we suffer at “the judgment seat of Christ.” “The judgment seat of Christ” is designed of God to give rewards to the Christians. See 2 Corinthians 5:10.

Scripture reading: Job 19:25-27

We cannot speak about resurrection unless we touch the greatest passage on resurrection in our whole Bible, Job 19. Here is a man lying three years on the floor in ashes, trying to ease the pain of boils and blisters that are all over his body. He was suffering and he looked at the worms who were busily taking away his flesh. His flesh was just melting under the trial of this sickness and this suffering. He said in verses 25-27, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”

This is just ABSOLUTE FAITH. Think of a man under such pressure and destruction of death! His flesh was melting away right before his eyes, and he said that HE WOULD “SEE GOD” in that same flesh. Not other eyes, not new eyes, BUT THE SAME EYES would behold His God in the latter day. He believed in the eminent appearance of Jesus Christ so he could say that with great conviction.

We can also have that same conviction. 1 John 3:2, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Thought for today: To have Absolute Faith as our brother Job had under such pressure and destruction of death!

The Oneness of the Lord

Scripture reading: John 17:22-23

John 17 shows us God’s perfect will for the church. Verses 22 and 23, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) are one: I in them (Jesus in us), and thou in me (God in Jesus), that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou has sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” If you see this to be the perfect will of God, could you go into an ecumenical joining with people who are deviant and contrary to God and say that this is the will of God that we, the church, should be one? This is not the oneness that the Lord is talking about. The oneness that Jesus is talking about is a oneness wherein we are absolutely subject to the Head which is Christ.

Every man, everywhere, that is subject to the Head, which is Christ, does not have to go and make an agreement, or an ecumenical joining, with another man in order to be one. He is already one in Christ. If Christ speaks, he moves and becomes a part of Christ. Every part of my body is at this present time subject to my head. My hands and my feet must move according to the dictates of my head. This is what we call ONENESS. Anything else is a travesty; it is against the very thoughts of Almighty God. The thing that is about to come forth is called the one-world church, or the antichrist, with “seven heads and ten horns;” power will be given to them by Satan himself.

In Matthew 24:21 and 22, Jesus refers to this group of people (the “man child”) and He called them “the Elect.” “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” These are not just the called-out, not just the church, but the “eklektos, those who are selected out of the elected.” The selected ones will be selected out of the “ekklesia,” or “the church.” The “eklektos” comes out of the “ekklesia,” or “the chosen comes out of the church.” God is saying that there is a “man child” company.

Another description of this company is in Revelation 14. In this chapter they are called the 144,000. Verse 4, “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.”
