But, this Chapter 14 says that he was met by a person. Let us look at it. Verse 17, “And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomar, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine neighbors into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”
Now, what kind of thing is that? The Bible here at this point does not tell us one thing about this King of Salem. So, turn with me to Hebrews, Chapter 7. Now, remember the principle: The righteousness that is of God in the Old Testament is the same righteousness that He requires of us in the New Testament. So, in Chapter 7 of Hebrews we see a revelation that comes from God to brother Paul, and that is the only thing that I can say, because Paul said certain things about the king of Salem that were not in the Old Testament. Right? You must have noticed that yourself. He said here, beginning in Verse 1, “For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.”
Paul here brings an enlightenment from the throne of God, and he said that Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek, priest of the most high God. The mention here of the tithe brings us right back to the Old Testament teaching. As a matter of fact, in the Bible the first person that we read of paying tithes is in this account here about Abraham, and this tithe must have some spiritual meaning far beyond what we have considered before. It means that a tenth of my life belongs to a Partner that keeps my life… Who gives me substance… Who gives me sustenance. It is a Partner. It belongs to Him.
It has nothing to do with offerings. Amen? When a tenth of your labor, of your efforts, of your sweat and blood is given back to God, it is His portion of investment in you.
Brother, let us suppose that you and I have an agreement. We are going to buy a certain amount of things, and you are going to do the work, but I put the money up; and in return you just give me a tenth of what you earn. It means that when you make a thousand dollars, you only keep nine hundred. The tenth is not yours at all!
But, what if you go and keep my portion and spend the tenth again, then you are putting tithes upon tithes! Let us do a little mathematics. If you keep my tenth, and you spend the whole one thousand to buy goods again and you go over again, that means that you owe me not only the tenth which is one hundred dollars on the thousand, but now on what you spent. If you make five thousand dollars, you owe me my proportion of the tenth. So, it is a tenth upon a tenth of my investment, and so you get indebted to me as you go on more and more. Amen.
Now, ask yourself the question: What did Melchisedek do with the gold and silver, and the things that were give to Him? Well, I will leave that for you to figure out.
The Word of God becomes a burden to me then. It is upon me, “Line upon line and precept upon precept,” and if I find that I am failing in my business, then there is a reason that I am failing in my business. You see, I believe that God set up a certain financial plan among His people, and if you read Abraham’s life, you will see that after he did that, his whole financial life blossomed. Amen! He got more and more, and he said, “I do not want the king of Sodom to say that he enriched me, therefore I will not take one pin.” He said, “I will not even take a shoelace from him because I do not want him to say that he enriched me.”
Now, God testified of Abraham. Hear the testimony of God about Abraham… it was not that Abraham was righteous, but that Abraham obeyed God and it was counted for righteousness…
My Jesus, help us, help us, help us, help us… As I talk to you, I am seeing things. Right? I am not talking to you from a natural script. I am talking to you because I am seeing things, and I see two things. I see two things: I see the tithe that Abraham did as part of our obedience to God… and I see at the end, a destruction coming upon the disobedient.
I am not telling you about tithes not when I talk about the destruction, because you know in the old church down there they said, “God will kill you if you not pay tithes!” That sort of thing, I am not talking about tithes as I refer to tithing.
I see two things. I see to encourage you to move forward now, to move forward with diligence. Watch yourself now, what you are doing. The next move is to tell you something that God has been whispering to me. That there are certain movements that God is going to be making in a short time to come, and we must be very keen to hear God; and to move where God says to move. Nobody should get up and run to do anything on his own… because it is dangerous… it is death at this time. It is destruction now. God wants each person to be at his post.
Let me deviate a little here, because yesterday God began to deal with me that we people need to discern the Body of Christ. It is not that we come to the convention and you did not get the chance to say anything, and therefore you want to say something and to have a chance to express yourself. We must be more matured than that. It is a time of warfare, brethren. We are moving into a certain area of intense warfare, and there are spirits out there to be dealt with.
The first thing a general finds out about the enemy, is what kind of equipment does he have coming against us? What is he using? Alleluiah! He has some ten ton tanks out there, and they are heavy weaponry. I have light weaponry, and if he is coming towards me, I must back up! I must retreat until my reinforcements come up. So we call it a “strategic” retreat. “He who fights and runs away may live to fight another day. But he who is in battle slain will never live to fight again.” Have you ever heard that before? Alright. So, I am saying that it is a strategic thing.
I was watching the meeting from a spiritual standpoint, and there are certain times in the meeting where certain people must rise and move, because those people are the ones to deal with what is there at the moment. There are certain time when certain ones in the congregation should back off, and someone else should come forward. It is not that one is better than the other, but that one weapon is the right things to use at that moment. The movement of a congregation should be Spirit led.
I appreciate the way I see some people growing in the Spirit. I see Brother Peter sit down, and I have not heard him say one word in this meeting. This shows spiritual maturity. God must use one vessel here, and withdraw it at another time; use another one there, and withdraw it at another time. We must be very discerning and conscious of the way God is moving the body, because if a man comes before you and it is time to give him a kick, do not use your fist. We are the members of the body and we are to be used by God. When the time come to run, you call upon the feet, “Run, feet! Run!” Amen! When the time comes to smell, you do not call your eyes. Your eyes will never see a smell. When it is time to see, then the eyes must open wide. When it is time to hear, the ears must hear.
There are different dimensions! You must realize that your ears are in a different world from your feelings, your touch, your smell! Amen! Each spirit, let us say, moves on a certain frequency. Your eyes are on one frequency, your nose on one frequency; your feeling, your touch… they are on other frequencies. Your five senses are on different frequencies and all these are frequencies of discernment. I am talking about spiritual things, brethren! Amen!
You discern with your ears. Sit down with the dog and all of a sudden his ears prick up. If you are smart, you know that he is hearing something that you are not hearing. Amen.
The discernment of the Body of Christ is designed of God to help the Body of Christ to move in the right way, and to preserve us, and to overcome the enemy. Alleluiah!
I always say that men should really listen to their wives: Listen to their feelings… and be strong. Sometimes, you have to say to you wife, “Let’s go! Though you feel so and so, Let’s go!” You know why? I understand that there are some dreadful spirits that will come in, and they are so dreadful that the instrument that God ordained to discern them trembles with fear. Did you ever have that problem, sister, that you discern something that it is so dreadful that it makes you afraid? That is what my wife tells me, and when she tells you, you must recognize that it is a terror of the thing that frightens her spirit, because if she is a discerner, then she is a delicate instrument and the very sound that she is hearing… the devil can set up a sound to try to blast her ears when the spirits appear.
Oh brethren, I wish I had the time to talk to you about the understanding of spiritual things, but you know, we do have perfection in our midst. You know that you are not perfect, but your little part with my little part, and these little parts… the church is perfect! Did you know that? The church has perfect vision, perfect hearing, perfect understanding, perfect everything! But it is not in any one person or group. If we could stay here together for two week, and band together, and begin to really love one another and begin to really move in the Spirit together, we would see the amazing things that would happen in this place. All the evil spirits over the whole state of New York would come down under the feet of a little group of people just gathered together in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!!
This is the reason why the devil wants to set one sister against the other and one brother against the other. This is why the devil wants to tell you something about what the brother said to you, and what, what, what…. But, do you know that that is his instrument of war? It is what we call the “fifth column.” Hitler would bring in the fifth column and send them among you and weaken you from inside. Well, that is over now. That is over now! We found out the devil’s trick long ago! We love everybody now! I do not care what you do, what you are, what you say about me! I still love you. Because I know you. You are a Son of God. You are born of Jesus Christ. The little liar that talks about me, he is not you. He is just using you through your weakness. You do so and so, and so and so. I do not believe him. He is a liar. Alleluiah. But I know you. We should know each other!
Praise God! The Word of God is bringing us to a place where we will be right with God in every way. God is our partner. God is working with is. We need to dedicate all our life and our substance to God. Dedicate it all to God, whether you have little or whether you have much. I heard brother Mark, and I was just laughing at him while he was telling the story because he should have known that God was setting a trap for him. When He told him, “Now, will you give all to Me? and so and so, and so.”
Any time God come with that, it means that He is going to give you something in the future, and once you make the covenant, that’s it. You have been had. Amen.
Now, God wants you to consciously dedicate all to Him. Then when you have bills to pay, and you do not have enough to pay the bills, you will recognize that all this money is not yours; so you will give God His own and then you take the rest to pay the bills. That is how it goes. And God will bless you.
Now, the way God blesses a group or a church is that God has a group, and within the group He gives one brother a good job, and He gives the other brother a good job, and He gives the other brother… He is setting you up to be a strength to the people of God. You see? Because, if you have to be worrying about your finances every day, you will not be able to function. Therefore, He sets you up there, and whatever He gives you a hand to do, do it. Amen! Because, that is only the “moonlight” part of our lives. The “God” part is the real part. You see? And so, He sets you up there, and when you start giving to God’s work, the strength that God gives strengthens God’s work. Amen!
There are some people who do not believe in giving, and their prosperity is waning! Amen! I am going to show you a scripture on what I am talking about. Let us go to Malachi. We are following Abraham’s example here now, and do now let any teaching or any theology tell you otherwise, besides what God is saying to us today. Because God spoke to me specifically about this subject, and He tells me that I am to start with Abraham. Do you understand? So, I made you understand Abraham first, and then I came to this scripture here. So, this is not incidental. This is deliberate.
We begin reading at Malachi 3:8, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.”
Do we take these words lightly? Is the Lord talking to us, or is He just talking to the Old Testament people? Are we better off than the Old Testament people? We have more. Oh yes! We have more!
I knew a brother many years ago. He was a man who did iron work, machinery and all that, and he made some tractors. And he said to God, “God, I will give you a tenth of all the blessing that I get.” And, it became a prosperous business and he said, “Lord I will give you ninety percent and I will live on the ten percent,” and the man, giving God’s work ninety percent, he became a multimillionaire on the ten percent.
Can you understand that? It is a divine principle. God is talking to obedient people. It is not a law. In the Levitical priesthood it was a law, but under Christ it is no longer a law, because you no longer have to do it to be saved. You do not have to do it to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. Amen. But, you have to do it to be obedient. Amen! God is saying that there is a people… hear me now… this is the last of it: There is a people who will live on obedience, or die on disobedience. Amen.
I went into a thrift shop. I used to pick up Bibles in thrift shops. I would go into thrift shops, and anywhere there is a Bible I would buy it and use it to give away to people on the street. While I was foraging for Bibles, I also found an Encyclopedia Britannica. Anywhere is any thrift shop where would you find an old encyclopedia, grab it, because it has in it some treasures that they do not have in the new ones. I bought the encyclopedia, and I looked up and I saw a book marked “Hiroshima.” I said, “Well, let me take this book. I probably would be glad to see what the truth is about Hiroshima.” I bought the books for five cents.
I went home and began to read it. It was written by a pastor. He said that the night before the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, there was an urgent call that came. The biggest family in the church was called away because the father was dying in another city and they had to rush off for this man. He said that something happened in another family, and they had to rush off. He said that the ladies got together and said, “Let us have a prayer meeting,” and they decided to have an early morning prayer meeting in a basement of a house. And an old lady wanted her furniture to be moved, so he and some of the other brothers were to go up on the mountain to move her furniture from one house to another. Early in the morning, before daybreak, he went off; the brethren met in the basement, and the church was empty. Now, almost the whole congregation was gone.
He said when he got up on top of the mountain, he saw a lone airplane coming over Hiroshima and they heard the siren. But, you know, it was just one airplane and he did not pay much attention to it. He said that he stepped between two rocks… then the whole world passed around him, he was thrown to the ground, and the other man was also thrown down.
They could not understand it. They said that at first they thought it must be the Coming of the Lord. Darkness was down there and they decided to go back. They went down into the darkness. He told of all the horror. The town was completely gone, but the basement of the house where the women were praying was preserved. They dug them out of the basement and nobody was hurt.
I saw something there. I saw God moving people around without telling them why. He got families of the church out of the way. He got the women into the prayer meeting. He saved the whole church without one soul knowing that He was protecting them!
I am telling you this, because God is showing me that the thing that He told me, when He sent me to the United States over thirty years ago, is about to come to pass. Your cities are about to be destroyed. Many people are about to be destroyed, but God will save His people… all those who trust in Him.
I will tell you a little bit of history. Twenty-five years ago I preached this in Miami, and a brother got up and took hold of it and ran with it. We were preaching to probably 30,000 people over the United States, and he got many of them to sell their property and give him the money, and he bought twelve farms up in Canada. He bought farms down in South America. Millions of dollars were given, and to this day brethren told me as being the guilty one. They said that the prophecy was false, because somebody took it and ran with it.
The prophecy is not false. It is about to happen now… Amen… but anybody who runs is not listening to God. You can run, if you hear God, but wherever God is placing you, be planted there! Do you hear me? God will say to this man “Go to the east,” and He will say to the other man, “Go to the west,” But there is one thing that God said to me that I will not forget. He said, “Get thee out of thy cities,” He said, “The cities will become untenable.” He showed me the pandemonium that will break out in the cities. Everybody was fleeing and killing one another to get away. They were fleeing, not even knowing where they were going. God wants the people of God to begin to listen to Him. God is going to move you gently as He will. Do not to use your brain to think where is the place of refuge, where is a place of hiding; because He might be telling your neighbor to go east, and He might be telling you to go west. For God is putting His people into the areas and into the places that He will have them. Amen.
Part of the obedience is your financial support of God’s business. There is a certain section of the Body that is carrying the whole load, and the other section is using their money to do their own business and to do their own thing. I want you to begin to dedicate yourself to God. Dedicate everything you have. Amen? Dedicate everything you have. Dedicate you children to God. He is going to take care of it, and He is going to put you where you ought to be. But do not rob God.
We have been going out ministering. We have gone to Africa, to India, to eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania. We have gone to Russia, Ukraine, Iceland, England, Germany. And we have seen the fruits of God, but do you ever consider how we went? Have you ever thought of how we went? Thank God for dedicated people of God who He has used and is using to be a part of taking the Gospel to these places.
This is a ministry of faith. God taught us in a very hard school. We started out in Jamaica, where God told me to give up my job. Sometimes we were hungry. Sometimes we were under great privation, but it never bothered us. I mean, I can tell you tales that would bring tears to your eyes, but I do not want tears to come to your eyes. So, I won’t tell you these tales. But, we knew what it was to suffer. We knew what it was to go preaching for days, without eating. It never bothered us. We got used to it. God is so faithful. We praise Him!
There are many spiritual blessing, but we wondered why God limited out natural resources. You know what I mean? The normal person, God gives them three meals a day and so and so, and so. We were serving God with all our hearts and yet we were not able to eat and to live as other people. We saw Christians eating and throwing away food while we did not have a morsel. And we wondered at it. We wondered at God. Thank God, we found out why. We were not in boot camp and He was training us to “be abased and to abound,” and not to be worried about what we have from what we did not have. He was training us to have the last morsel, and to give it to somebody who was in need, and not to think of it. He trained us! We were well trained.
We landed in Miami, with something like only eight or twelve dollars to go on our missionary journey, and bless God, we overcame! Thank God we overcame! Amen.
We left Miami. We went up into Colorado Springs preaching, and we did not have money nor did we have clothes for that type of climate. It was very cold and we did not think of it until we faced the cold. That night we were to sleep in a tent up in the mountains near Colorado Springs, and everybody was covering up. One brother came up to me and said, “Brother duCille, you don’t have anything to sleep in?” I said, “No.” He said, “Here is a sleeping bag,” and that was the first time in my life that I ever went into a sleeping bag. When the temperature fell that night to freezing, the Lord told me to blow into the sleeping bag, and I brought it over my head and began to breathe into it, and it was so warm and so comfortable sleeping there on the ground in Colorado Springs.
I am just saying this to you to encourage you how to walk by faith. When the Lord would say, “Go,” we would go and consider how we are going afterwards.
We have been going like this for many years and there is not one time that God did not pay bills. So, we have learned to go by faith, and everybody that goes with us, the person paid their own fare. One brother said to me, “Brother duCille, which man ever goes to war and pays his own way?” It was then that I realized that probably we are not training the brethren properly, for the Church should pay the way of those who are going on mission. People should not pay their own way. So that is an imperfection in our midst, and it is all because people rob God. Malachi 3:8 says, “You rob God in tithes and offerings. It is offerings also. After you give God His share, God expects you to give Him some of your share. Did you know that? I want to bring it to your consciousness, because I know that we are good people. We are walking in the Spirit. We do not think of it, and sometimes you think, “This brother has enough… he does not need any more.” I have enough because God will not let me down.
The other day I had a real test. I am going to tell you about it. We wanted to stop buying tapes from Hong Kong. Hong Kong was soon going over to China, and because of the persecution of the Church and slave labor, we did not want to buy any tapes from China. We talked with Gordon and we felt that the door was closing and our options were few, and we needed to buy a whole year’s worth of tapes, and so we were in a bind. We came to a point that I had to exercise my faith, and when I called the people where we buy the tapes, we said that we needed 15,000 tapes. It came to a cost of $6,500, and when the order for tapes was made, the man said, “Are you putting it on your credit card?” I said, “Yes!” I put in on the card, and with out traveling, that one credit card came up to over $8,500 and the other credit card came up to over $2,500, and it was a total of $12,000 that month. And I did not have it. I said, “Jesus, You are going to do it.”
I got cold feet, really. In the last convention I told you about it, and I told Peter and he shared concerning it. Some offering came in, but we did not have the $12,000. We went to the Post Office and we looked at the mail, and guess what? The end of the month came, and on the last day to pay, we just barely had the $12,000, and we wrote the check to American Express. God bless American Express.
We were tested again, however, because now we did not have money for groceries. We had to wait two weeks before any more money came in. It just dried up; but we know God, and so we did not worry! We know God. He has never let us down! “He cannot fail for He is God.”
I look forward to the day when the Body of Christ will buy the tickets and send the people forward. You are going to do it by your obedience. Nobody will be stressed, distressed, or pressed. We have a building that we have put up in Mahomet: an act of faith. Nobody is going to be stressed, distressed, or pressed. We are going to pay for it!
We have men who are waiting on us for their daily bread (specifically in India). I mean that they are trusting God, but we are the instruments that God is using to feed them. If we do not send it to them one month, their families will be hungry. They will not stop preaching! Amen. We will do it.
We are going to help the brethren in the Ukraine to build their church, because they cannot have service without a place. We are not talking about “Babylon.” We are talking about a house where you can preach and praise God and save souls. Alleluiah! We are going to stand behind them financially. We are going to help them if we have to sell our houses, sell our cars, sell our shoes… whatever people will buy… we will have garage sales… but we are going to help them, to build a church and teach them what freedom is in the Spirit. Because every church organization in America that is helping them, is owning them. “We help you… therefore you have to preach our doctrine. You have to be with us.” We are helping them, and we do not want them to preach any doctrines, but to walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Finally, young people… all of you are young.. consider yourselves missionaries of God… ambassadors of Christ. You are required to go forward, for the hour is at hand when God will anoint you to go. You will never know what you have until you go and see somebody who has nothing.. Amen. Ask Shannon… ask Sarah… ask those young people who went with us. They did not know that they had anything to give until they went. I remember once when we were in Scotland and a young girl was talking away that she could take the word from me. She was saying that I was too old, and “You don’t know what we young people are suffering.” Shannon got a matchstick to fall on her head and she got up and she lashed out, and blessed be to God, I sat back and saw her preach the gospel to one of her own age, and the girl shut her mouth. She could not say a word. Amen!
Sarah went with us, and probably she thought she was nothing at all, but God began to use her mightily! We thought Brother Campbell had come with us. You know, it is funny, but it is marvelous the things you impart to your children without even knowing. He imparted the gift to her, and she did not know. I do not think he deliberately did it, but the Bible said that Moses laid his hands on the seventy men and imparted of his spirit upon them and they began to prophesy; and this is what you do for your children. You impart to them the glory that God is putting on you! Alleluiah! Amen!
Now, I am not the right person for you to take at the end of a convention, because I will preach until tomorrow; but, you know, one thing is that you can get the tapes, and sit down, and really chew your cud. Listen again to the things that are coming forth, because I did not plan for these things to come forth; and so I want you to accept it as coming from the Lord.
And this is my department. This is how I function best. I function in the Spirit best by just letting the Holy Ghost move upon me, and I talk to you, and I did not plan it before. You understand? He gives me certain guidelines. As I told you, He showed me three things. I think that I have covered them adequately, and I pray to God that whatever I missed, you might do the rest!
