Message given at the Sonlight Gospel Conference in Illinois, July 1997 (Saturday Afternoon Meeting)
There is a little old saying that came to me when Brother Craig was up here. Have you ever heard the saying, “A little bit of laughter makes the medicine go down”? I believe that we need to really take heed to the word that God is speaking to us this afternoon, even to the things that Brother Craig was exhorting us on. There is a lot of truth in what he is saying.
I just want to read one Scripture verse, 2 Timothy 2:19,
“NEVERTHELESS THE FOUNDATION OF GOD STANDETH SURE, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
I know, Brethren, that the word that God is bringing to His people in this hour is sure. Many changes come and many people are presented with this word, but there are only a few who will be found faithful. I know it, even from our own lives and our Fellowship group in Dubuque. When God first established a people there who heard this word, a lot of those people who were there at the beginning, they are not there now.
I asked God one day, I said, “Why, God? Why have all these people left, and why are there just some? I know that it is not that I am any great person, or any great thing”; and God said to me, “It is because of My Word that the work still stands.” His only reason was that His Word was to be made sure, and that is what He has magnified. It is in His Word!
There are a couple of things that came to me concerning what we are being presented with. We need to make our foundation sure (Do we believe the thing that we are hearing?). It is good for us to take stock according to what we believe that is in the Word; and then, I am really up here to encourage you to listen to some tapes. Praise God! I really am!
Do you know, it is very interesting and God is marvelous—the things that are happening in this conference. People are being confronted with the truth. And yet, God saw that and made a way beforehand that there is presently available a new set of tapes by Brother Cecil consisting of a series of teachings he delivered earlier this year down in West Palm Beach. Called the “Foundation Series”, these teachings are not just for the West Palm Beach Fellowship. From what I hear, they have been greatly encouraged there by these foundation teachings, but I believe these teachings are a gift to the whole Body. I also feel, in the context of this afternoon’s meeting, that it is something that God is giving to us for us to go and search out the truth: Do we believe the word that God has brought to us?
Before this conference began, we felt to prepare video and audio tapes of this teaching series by Brother duCille. We have sets right here today that we each can pick up as a Fellowship. So that we can go back and review the Word, that, first of all, “Do we KNOW the Word?” Also, if this is the Word, “Do we BELIEVE the Word?” Hallelujah!
There are youth in our midst, who sit in our meetings, that have need that their foundation be made “sure.” Have we—as adults, as people who have walked in this word—Have we been diligent in teaching our youth this word? I know that this can give us an opportunity!
I do not know if many of you fellowships out there have ever taken the video tapes and listened to them as a group? I know that some people feel that, “Well, that was a meeting, and, you know, you are watching something that was then, and now there is no anointing.” Well, I would speak to say it is different! I have seen an anointing upon a word, and whether it has been recorded by audio tape, or recorded by video tape, it is the anointed word and there is power in it! I know that in times past we have taken that as a Fellowship and we have listened to tapes and watched videos together, and I have seen the power and the Spirit of God move in that meeting just as it moved at that time that the meeting was being recorded; and there was deliverance, and people were blessed and walked away strengthened! Hallelujah!
I just want to share a little bit about these Foundation teachings. It is said in the beginning of these teachings that you build from the ground up. You start with the foundation, and that is the basis on which everything is being built! The Foundation Series starts out with “Faith and Diligence.” It speaks on Hebrews 11, and it continues to go on into the Tabernacle and into the different aspects of the Tabernacle and the relationships that they have to our lives. There are sixteen lessons. Each lesson is about an hour and fifteen minutes to a hour and one half in length. I am encouraging fellowships to take a set and listen to the word as a group, and discuss the word; and as you discuss it, there is something that happens when you begin to understand the word that is coming forth!
I think it is very good! There are many youth here. I want to encourage every one of you, along with the elders in the different groups, to consider having these teachings, whether it be on your youth night or whether it be when you all meet to sit down together, to review this word together; to discuss the word! I believe that God will bless you, and things that are lacking, God will put into order, because it is in these teachings!
